Ikarus' Vater hatte ihm Flügel aus Federn und Wachs gebaut, um der Stadt Kreta zu entkommen. Icarus ignorierte die Anweisungen seines Vaters, nicht zu nahe an die Sonne zu fliegen. Die Hitze ließ seine Flügel schmelzen und Ikarus fiel vom Himmel ins Meer, wo er ertrank.
