Fate
The precariousness of existence is at the heart of John Pitre’s Fate. In a barren desert, a woman’s body emerges as a tree, her torso and arms fused with bark and branches, her form both bound and rooted in the cracking earth. Vines coil around her trunk-like body, while her arms lift skyward, transforming into slender limbs heavy with leaves. Behind her, a rhinoceros approaches across a fractured plain, a symbol of sudden force and unpredictable threat.
Fate explores the mystery of destiny and the unseen forces that shape every living being in the universe. Through symbolic imagery and cosmic atmosphere, the painting reflects the delicate balance between chance, choice, and the paths that unfold throughout life.
