Temptations

Temptations is John Pitre’s visionary reflection on desire, innocence, and the fragile balance of choice. The artwork, originally commissioned for a major album cover in the 1970s, ultimately faced rejection due to its provocative symbolism of drugs and forbidden pleasures. A notorious kingpin in Colombia soon acquired it, solidifying its status as one of Pitre's most infamous and controversial works. Set in a surreal paradise of towering flora and glowing fruit, human figures linger at the threshold of light, their vulnerability illuminated against a dreamlike horizon. Both allegory and meditation, the work reminds us that beauty and peril are often entwined—and that temptation carries the weight of history, myth, and consequence.
