A New Dawn
A New Dawn is a prophetic vision of things to come. Pitre imagined a ruined lower Manhattan long before the Twin Towers were ever built.
At the center, Pitre painted himself reduced to his most primitive state, standing among the rubble on the stone of a John Pitre Incorporated building. Stripped of modern civilization, even the simplest tools of survival were gone—where once there may have been a stick or club, all that remained was a piece of pipe in his hand. Scattered symbols, including a child’s rubber ball and a Fifth Avenue street sign, represent lost innocence and the fragility of modern life.
Decades later, the Twin Towers were built on that very ground, becoming the epicenter of the financial world and a symbol of American power and prosperity. After their fall on September 11, 2001, the painting took on an eerie and profound new meaning. What once felt like a Cold War warning became a reflection of a changing America—the beginning of the decline of financial dominance, the loss of innocence, and the realization that even the greatest empires are not immune to collapse. Yet from ruin, there is always the possibility of rebuilding—a new dawn.
